The
Packard House was built in 1851 by a master ship builder whose
name was Marlboro Packard. Mr. Packard managed many of the
local shipyards that drove the economy of Searsport during the nineteenth
century. In the 1948, the motel was added to the property, replacing
an apple orchard. The Packard House has been used as a gift shop,
a fine dining restaurant and a bed and breakfast inn.
Vacationers from around the world have been drawn to the timeless beauty of Penobscot Bay. Sailing on Penobscot Bay can be a spectacular addition to any visit. The Yardarm is ideally situated for a comprehensive visit to Maine. We are within an hour's drive to many of Maine's tourist destinations. ThePenobscot Marine Museum, a 13 building campus, was initiated by Searsport citizens who didn't want to lose the rich seafaring tradition that our community had grown up around. Elmwood cemetery's access road is adjacent to the Yardarm Motel. This small cemetery is nestled in the woods and is the final resting place of sea captains, civil war veterans, as well as Marlboro Packard and his wife Mary. This quiet spot is an excellent way to stroll through Searsport's history while getting to know and pay respect to our town's early settlers.

| "Your
motel is so pretty with all those huge lawns and shade trees. We loved
the sound of the song birds and our whole stay felt more like we were in
a country inn. The coffee was superb!"
